Digital Distraction Life Hacks

You spent the month of February keeping track of your digital digestion and hopefully it's give you some insight into your habits around your personal device. Recent studies have shown that we're all spending a lot of time passively wasting our lives away on our devices. So for this post I want you to share a "hack" that you do, or want to try, to cut back on your screen time and reclaim more focus in your life. Here's some tips to get you started or give you some ideas:

  • Listen to music without words while studying or reading. Check out Noisili. It's an app that operates like a noise box that improves your ability to work. Choose audio from rushing water, trees rustling, or a running fan to create that atmosphere of stress-free productivity.
  • Getting sucked into a technology black hole is as simple as tapping open your phone. When you need to focus, and I mean really focus, it's all but impossible to pull yourself away from the distraction that is social media. Cold Turkey is an app designed to help you get on your grind.
What's yours?

  1. Doing things that help me to stay productive get me off of my phone and not waste time. Some tasks I like to do are to clean my room, organize my drawers, do laundry, focus on school work, paint, and make plans where I won't go on my phone as often as I would at home.

  3. Something that helps me stay productive and use less screen time is setting reminders on my phone. When I need to do homework I will usually procrastinate and go on my phone. But when I set these reminders there will be small notifications on my phone that tell me to do my get my work done before relaxing. Or it could say something like "study for upcoming algebra test then you can relax and watch YouTube". This helps me a lot with getting my work done.

  4. Something that helps me stay productive is shutting off my phone completely. My phone is a major distraction when I need to do homework. By shutting off my phone and placing it in another room, it helps me stay focused on my tasks and not get distracted.

  6. Something that helps me stay productive and use less screen time is by setting an alarm for an hour each time I pick up my phone. When, the alarm goes off I either take a 20 minute break or just put my phone away completely.

  7. Something I do that helps me to keep track of my screen time and not waste as much time on my phone is spend as much time as possible outdoors. Being outdoors is my favorite thing. When the weather is nice, in my free time, I would always ask my friends if they want to do something. Being outside doesn’t give me the urge to check my phone every time it buzzes. Playing softball helps a lot with this especially because it is my favorite sport to play.

  8. Something that helps me to stay productive and not be on my phone as much is being outside, on a softball field or being with my friends. I try to do this as much as possible because it makes me happy and it's an escape from the world in my house and on my phone. When I'm with my friends, I find it rude to be glued to my phone so I turn it on airplane mode and go about my day hanging out with them. When I'm outside or at the softball field, I turn my brightness all the way down so that even if I was to check my phone, I wouldn't be able to see the colors on the screen through the light from the sun. By not being on my phone, I get more activities done, and I am able to enjoy myself a lot more.

  9. When I try to do my homework, or study, I get so distracted by my phone, and a task that only takes 20 minutes turns into a few hours. Putting my phone in a different room, or setting a timer, does no justice. I just go back on my phone, and waste more time. What I started doing is shutting off my phone completely. I eventually forget about it, and I can focus on my work.

  10. Something I do that helps me stay off my phone is that whenever I do work, I put my phone far away from me so it lessens the urge to grab it and go on it. I would also try to do some other activity other than going on my phone like painting, reading, or taking a walk.

  11. Something that I do that helps me stay more productive and get my homework done without procrastinating is that I set app limits on my phone to limit the time I spend on those apps.I also try to keep my phone away from me so I won't be distracted. From time to time I also listen to music but sometimes that just distracts me even more.

  12. Something that I do which helps me get tasks done such as my homework is to shit my phone off completely. This is because if I don't hear the alerts go off then I won't get distracted. Another thing I resort to is leaving my phone in a different room.

  13. Something I do to cure my quarintineboredom is to try new hobbies. Like art, yoga, or cooking etc. Also just tying new dances (even though I cant dance) and trying to spend time with my family is always something I dont mind to do.
