The Power of Blogs

The great thing about blogs is that they can be about anything and it is a fresh perspective from outside the mainstream. Do you love to travel? Start a travel blog and it becomes your unique view on the topic. For this post I want you to pretend this is your blog. Write a post about a recent experience you had with something you have a strong opinion about. It can be negative or positive. Your post should be 6-10 sentences at a minimum. Compare and contrast what you are writing about with other things similar to your topic. For example: If you are writing about a record from a particular artist, compare it to similar artists or the artists earlier work. Same for restaurants, etc. See examples for ideas. The key is to be passionate.
Ideas:
  1. Movie review - Compare two movies you recently saw and what you like or disliked about them.
  2. Book review - see movie review...
  3. Travel experience
  4. Restaurant review
  5. Fashion review
  6. Technology

  1. As Christmas is approaching, every one would love a new phone! The iPhone 11 was the newest iPhone this year and it dominated the spotlight. It costs $699 which is $300 less than the iPhone 11 Pro, which starts at $999. But, there's not really a big difference between the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max except the word "Pro" and "Max". Like the iPhone XR was to the iPhone XS, the iPhone 11 has nearly every feature the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Max have: the most powerful performance in any smartphone, a new ultra wide camera, night mode for better low-light photography, longer battery life than the previous generation, and all of the new features in iOS 13 such as dark mode and a redesigned Photos app. Also, the iPhone 11 comes in way more colors than the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The iPhone 11 comes in white, black, green, yellow, purple and red. While, the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max only come in space gray, silver, midnight green and gold. The bottom line is that the iPhone 11 gets you every important iPhone 11 Pro feature for $300 less. Hopefully, I can convince my parents to buy me one.

    1. I agree with Cianna that it is more common to see similar iPhones. It feels as if the brand Apple, are just running out of ideas on how to make more improvements on the next model of iPhone. It doesn't help that Apple creates a "planned obsolescence" for each model so that you need to buy the new phone to retain all of your prior information. I do not want to get a new phone but I might have to since I have a model iPhone 7, so I will have to buy a phone that is way too expensive or I could lose connection with my friends.

  2. One of Disney's most popular movie, Frozen, just had it's sequel come out, Frozen 2, on November 20 2019. I saw the movie with Adventure Is Out There Club and I really enjoyed it. I will try to leave out spoilers in my review but I will express my opinions on it. The music in the movie was really good in the first movie with one of it's big hits, "Let It Go." I think that some of the songs in the sequel were also good such as "Into the Unknown." I think that the first movie, however, had songs that were more iconic that the second movie; they were also more memorable. I also think that the plot was more diven in the first one than the second one. The first movies plot was simple but it was easy to follow but in the second one, it was more complex and tried a little to hard to "change things up." I think that in the second movie, they also left out the solution to certain side plots in a way to rush into the ending. The animation in the second movie was much more realistic than the first one. Some parts of the movie looked extremely real. The comedy in the second movie was also better than in the first one. One of the main characters in the movies named Olaf, is matured in the second movie along with his jokes, which were more childish in the first movie. If you want to watch these movies, I would definitely recommend seeing both of them.

    1. Eileen, I totally agree with you. While, Frozen 2 was good, I think the 1st Frozen was a little better. I agree with you saying the graphics were way better in Frozen 2. I also agree with what you were saying about the songs. The songs in the 1st Frozen were way more iconic than the songs in Frozen 2, even though they were still good. The 1st Frozen had songs like: "Let It Go", "Love Is An Open Door", "Do You Wanna Build A Snowman", "In Summer" and "For The First Time In Forever"(which I still know the lyrics to). While, Frozen 2 had songs like: "Into The Unknown", "Show Yourself", "The Next Right Thing" and "All Is Found." (which I kinda don't know the lyrics to). In conclusion, both movies were good but the 1st Frozen was better. I totally agree with you Eileen!

  3. One of the biggest changes I have exerpienced in my life is the transition from middle school to high school. I won't hide the fact that it was pretty difficult. At the beginning of the year, I was struggling keeping up with my schedule, the work load, and playing volleyball. When I was in middle school, my teachers would always tell me where I was going next so I was never confused. I also wasn't given as much homework and my softball team rarely had practices, they were mostly on the weekends. Another big thing that concerned me about transitioning from middle to high school was whether or not I would be able to fit in and make new friends. I was really worried about not being in the same school as my best friends after eleven years, but I soon realized that as long as I was myself, I was able to make so many new and wonderful friends. The last thing I had a tough time getting used to was waking up at 5:30 every morning so that I had enough time to get to school. My middle school was right down the block from me so if I really had to I could wake up fifteen minutes before our bell would ring and still make it on time. However, as this year continued, I was able to adjust myself to the time change and now it hardly affects me. Overall, transitioning from middle school to high school is a pretty tough process. But, if you have a few good friends taking the same journey with you and make so many new ones, it becomes easier and easier as the year goes on.

    1. I 100% agree. High school is definitely more stressful then middle school, having to balance between school work and a sport. In the beginning of the year, I had played volley ball, where we would practice everyday. Those practices would last from when we got out of school, till 5:30. In middle school, I also did not have as much homework to do, so when I started receiving more of it this year, it was a struggle to do it all after I came home from practice.

    2. I can relate to this a lot. Since we went to the same middle school for nine years we've been through so much. I can agree that the transition was very difficult. I've still been having trouble waking up early and I don't think that's ever going to change. This school is definitely very far from our old school but change can be good. Yes, I miss our old friends but I can agree that we've made great friends here. Overall I can admit that the change was hard at first but i'm used to the schedule now.

    3. I agree as well that it was hard to adjust to the new hardships of transitioning from middle school to high school. I was also worried about if I would make friends or not in this new chapter of my life. But I also agree that the schedule was hard to adapt to a first, I even got lost around the building a couple of times but I started to get the hang of it. From this I also agree with you when you say that this change was stressful, but we have learned to adapt.

  4. I just recently went to a country music event in the Barclays Center two weeks ago. The event was called Stars and Strings and seven different performers headlined it. However, I was only there for three people: Chris Jansen, Dustin Lynch and my favorite, Sam Hunt. Many people have different opinions and this genre of music. In my opinion, it's definitely in my top two. Sam Hunt was the big act that everyone wanted to see that night. The announcers kept saying he was going to come out, but every time they said it, they just let another act come on. Chris Jansen came on fifth. He sings my favorite country song so I honestly was so excited to see him. But when he came out, not many people were dancing and singing along to his music the way I was. When he did his most famous song, everyone got louder. That really woke the place up. Next to perform was Dustin Lynch, who in my opinion, was the best performer of the entire night. He got everyone loud because his songs are more upbeat. He was jumping around the stage the entire time, and he was taking videos with the front row people's phones. He was so into his performance. Then finally, after waiting two hours, Sam Hunt came on. The roar of the crowd as he walked out was the loudest I heard the whole night. He has a lot more known songs so everyone was singing and dancing to them in their seats. He closed with his first song that ever hit the top charts. For my first country music concert, I think it was a huge success. It was something I'll never forget and I plan go back next year with the same people I went with this time.

  5. I've only ever been out of the country once. In February I went to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, with my whole family for a wedding. It was beautiful there. The water was a clear blue and I could actually see my feet. When I walked on the beach the sand never burned my feet. It was always the right temperature to walk on. The sky was a bright blue everyday and didn't rain the whole time I was there. These are all great things but there were some downsides too. I ate at about 6 different restaurants and each meal I had was bad. I don't think It had to do with the place itself but the resort. I stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel and it was really nice but every time I would stop to get a bite of food I never had anything good to say about it. Overall my experience was eventful. I'm happy I left when I did though because a few weeks after I arrived home there were a bunch of mysterious deaths, including at the resort I stayed at.

    1. As someone who has never been out of the country in their whole life, this has really influenced me to want to get out of America to see all these amazing things. On my vacations I experience the exact opposite at beaches. The sand is aways burning hot, the water is freezing, and Mother Nature really must not like me and my family because it always seems to rain. Maybe it's just the United States though. Even though you have said amazing things about Punta Cana, the food experience and the last sentence in particular kind of turned me away. I am a very picky eater, so I might not like the food there, and I don't really want to die on a vacation. Around the time you went, the famous baseball player David Ortiz got shot at a bar in the Domican Republic and it scared me a little if I am being honest. So, overall I would like to visit this place and many others, but I would just have to make sure I go during a safe time.

  6. The song Earfquake by Tyler The Creator placed 13 on the Billboard 100 charts this year. It's a pretty popular song and out of the entire album. I'd have to say it's the most known. Some would say it's his best album yet, but I'm here to disagree. Personally I say his album "Flower Boy" from 2017 was my most favorite. Both albums are stories of their own, but I'd have to say that Flower Boy was a change in direction from his usual sound. His music before "Flower Boy" was more edgy and coarse like in his album "Goblin" or "Cherry Bomb". When "Flower Boy" came out it was a lot softer and showed a different side of Tyler than his usual. Tyler showed alot of feelings in that album of himself compared to "Igor" where it was a story of love and how it broke him. Although "Igor" charted and not a song of "Flower Boy" did it's one of albums that I dont feel like I need to skip a song or would change anything about it. It's a ride of sound that you take when you listen to that album and its just good. I dont really reccomended it to a lot of people because he may not be everyones sound, but you can check him out if you want. Not really my buisness.

  7. This was the first time I have ever went out of the country. I went to Athens,Greece in February of 2019.I went with my eighth grade class for our senior trip. The city of Athens is filled with rich history and holds ruins from important buildings that date all the way back to ancient times. We went to different cities all around Greece such as Corinth, Delphi, Sounio, and of course Athens.Personally my favorite part of pretty much the entire trip was going to see the Epidaurus Amphitheater, my entire class climbed to the top of the huge staircase. The view was so amazing. Not only did we visit historical sites in Greece but also we experinced new cultures, such as the the type of foods people eat, how the church services, and what was considered the type of entertainment. We ate everything from gyros to red snapper. Also another great thing about the trip was when we went to go see a puppet show called Karagiozis. One thing that was really similar too New York was that there was a lot of traffic and so many people roaming the streets. The were so many jewelry stands and food stands outside. Everything was great except it got really hot sometimes and it was in late winter when we went. This trip doesn't compare to any other of the trips that I have taken, I am so glad I got this once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Greece and learn about the culture that built what to world is today.

  8. I’ve traveled to Mexico multiple times throughout my life. And every time, it is a special experience. It always feels refreshing to travel somewhere completely different from New York. In New York, there are tall buildings and noisy cars. But in Mexico, there are lines of adobe houses with animals roaming around. My family’s hometown is hidden in the mountains and it’s such a beautiful view. I spend most of my time watching the view and just relax. It is very peaceful compared to New York. There are some downfalls to Mexico though. You have to be careful all the time because you might encounter some poisonous bug (like a scorpion.) And being stung by one doesn’t seem fun at all. At those times, I prefer New York over Mexico. But overall, I equally enjoy both places. In the future, I wish to travel to new places.

  9. I have traveled many times throughout my life, whether it was in the states or out of the country, and one of my most memorable trips was to Vietnam. I have been to Vietnam only a couple of times, and each time I am there I feel at home. I grew up in New York and I loved the city life, but one would get tired of looking at the same painting all the time and not wanting to look at something else. Every time I come to Vietnam, I feel like all of my stress and problems wash away. I travelled all over Vietnam, hiked up mountains, walked through the busy city life and the quiet countryside, each view as breathtaking as the others, and I feel at home. Some might say that Vietnam is nothing special, it's like every country that you visit, nice views, beautiful landmarks, welcoming citizens, and of course, lots and lots of tourists. Vietnam is all that and more. Of course, it is not perfect, nothing in the world is. People are mean, there are animals roaming that do not want to be petted, and the views might be as nice. And sometimes, I agree, sometimes I would wish that I could go back to New York, where people would not make fun of you for not being fluent in the language or some would not try to scam you because you are a foreigner or where there are no mosquitoes to bite you every minute of the day. But both countries, no matter how different or alike they may seem, they are still home, and I hope to still visit Vietnam along with other countries in the future.

    1. That sounds great! This is because although I've never been to Vietnam, you seem to have made many special memories there. You also seem to have had a wonderful experience as you have family members that live there. I've always wanted to visit Vietnam, and your post had interested me more on the topic.

  11. I've traveled to Florida more than once in my life. And although it's not where my family is originated from, a lot of my family lives there. Whenever I am in Florida with my family I feel comforted and stress free. I feel as if a huge load of worries were lifted off of my shoulders. Although New York is where I was conceived and raised, Florida provides me with a whole new thought frame and perspective on certain situations and circumstances. People view Florida as somewhere that anyone can visit, however, not everyone is able to feel the same way about certain things. For me, Florida is incomparable to the many other places I have visited. This is probably because compared with New York, it's like a totally different world. The air smelled cleaner and the water was clearer. Florida is a very special place to visit, in my opinion, because you are able to make everlasting memories and it evokes a new emotion every time you visit.

    1. I agree with your statement about Florida, because I have had many similar experiences there. My family and I go to Florida a lot, specifically Orlando and every time it's something new. The weather is always different each time we go. One day it'll be bright hot and sunny, while the next day it'll be chilly and raining. My favorite types of days are the ones where it starts raining and then the sun comes out and it's beautiful again. It reminds me of mood swings. However, I don't agree with what you say about Florida not being for everyone. Yes, I understand that the heat gets bad and some may hat that, but I think it is bearable. To me, I believe New York and Florida are alike in a couple ways, the biggest being that many tourists visit there. Florida gets a lot of tourists because of their many theme parks and sights to see. Florida is known to some of the biggest theme parks in the world, and of course Orlando is home to Disney World. This to me is like New York because here, we also get many tourists because of our tall buildings and places to visit in the city.
